Mulvey suggested three ''looks'' or perspectives in films the directly objectify women:
- First 'look' - Male character and how he reacts to/judges the female character
- second 'look' - The audience and how they see the female character on screen
- Third 'look' - The first two 'looks' together. This allows the male audience members to see the female characters through the eyes of other male characters on screen by relating to them, further objectifying the female character.
